Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 September 2026
This policy explains how Bristol Connect Jobs ("we", "us") collects and uses personal data when you use this website to look for work or to advertise vacancies. Bristol Connect is a trading name of Sous Chien Ltd, the data controller for that information, and we handle it in line with UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number ZC069465.
Who this policy covers
- Job hunters who register, search and save searches, and receive job alerts by email.
- Employers who create an organisation profile and advertise jobs.
- Visitors who browse published jobs and the About Bristol pages without an account.
The information we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.
- Sign-in and security data — email verification and one-time sign-in codes, records of browsers you have chosen to trust, the dates you last signed in or changed your password, and your IP address (used to rate-limit sign-in, password reset and similar requests to prevent abuse).
- Job-seeking activity — the searches you save, your choice of which search feeds your weekly email, and the jobs matched to you.
- Employer / organisation details — organisation name and type, description, website, contact name and email, phone number, address and postcode, any registration number and a logo, plus the content of the vacancies you post.
- Payment information — when you pay to publish a job, card payments are handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not receive or store your full card details; we keep a record that a payment was made and its reference and status.
- Emails we send you — account emails (verification, password reset, sign-in codes, password-change alerts) and, if you opt in, a weekly digest of jobs matching a saved search.
- Technical data — cookies and server logs needed to run the site securely. See our Cookies page for the full list of cookies.
How and why we use your information
- To provide the service (our contract with you): creating and securing your account, saving your searches, publishing and managing your job adverts, and taking payment for job postings.
- For our legitimate interests: keeping the site secure, preventing fraud and abuse, responding to enquiries, and keeping employers' published vacancies up to date (including automatically checking some employers' own careers pages — see our job listing bot page).
- With your consent: sending the weekly job-alert digest and setting any non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time (see below).
- To meet legal obligations: keeping records of payments for accounting and tax purposes.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run the site:
- Stripe — to take and process job-posting payments securely.
- Our email provider — to deliver the account and alert emails you are due to receive.
- Our hosting provider — to store the site and its database.
When you advertise a job, the details in that advert (including any contact details you choose to include) are published publicly on this site. We may also disclose information where the law requires us to.
International transfers
Some of our providers (such as Stripe) may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep certain records — for example, payment records are retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Short-lived items such as sign-in codes and server logs are kept only briefly.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- ask us to delete your data or restrict how we use it;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- receive certain data in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent (for example, by turning off the weekly digest or declining non-essential cookies) without affecting earlier processing.
You can update your name and password, and manage your saved searches and weekly-email choice, from your account at any time. To exercise any other right, please contact us at CustomerServices@bristolconnect.co.uk.
Security
We protect your account with hashed passwords, email-based two-step verification for new devices, CSRF protection on forms and other technical safeguards. No online service can be completely secure, so please choose a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.
Children
The registration for jobs on this site is intended for people of working age and is not directed at children. Please do not register if you are under 16.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can try to help. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
